General Summary

The Facilities department provides a safe, clean, and functional facility to enable the faculty, staff, and students of FRCC to achieve their educational goals. As a Structural Trades II, you will provide skilled trades support in repairs, maintenance, and installations in the areas of carpentry, construction, plumbing, painting, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, door locks, and furniture. Operate independently without direct supervision to troubleshoot and address issues and prevent problems if possible.

Duties

Painting / Light Carpentry

Selects paint and applies to walls, doors, and trim. Seals and applies texture to walls as well as the installation of drywall and patching holes. Installs doors and hinges as well as adjusting door closures. Using appropriate hand and power tools to perform these tasks.

Structural, Plumbing and Door System Repair

Repair and maintenance of plumbing systems and fixtures, including but not limited to, copper piping, faucets, toilets, urinals, and drinking fountains. Kitchen equipment repair and maintenance. Provides troubleshooting, repair and installation of door hardware including proximity door locks and key entry door locks. Repair and replace lock cores as needed.

Assemble / Repair / Troubleshoot Furniture, Equipment, Fixtures

Furniture, fixture, and equipment repair, maintenance, and replacement for entire Boulder County Campus operation. This may include but not limited to classroom chairs, tables, office desks, chairs, cubicles, file cabinets, whiteboards, and corkboards. Includes Assembly of new furniture such as bookshelves, chairs, cabinets and desks.

Furniture / Equipment Inventory Functions

Perform functions for relocation of furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the entire Boulder County Campus operation. Control on-site inventory and coordinate asset disposal to state surplus and maintain the proper documentation.

Misc Repair and Snow Removal

Operates and maintains a variety of equipment as needed to perform essential functions, but not limited to : pallet jack, truck, hand trucks, dollies and UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle). Performs snow / ice removal at entryways as needed. Coordinates snow removal with property management when the Assistant Director is absent.

Minimum Requirements

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades appropriate to the work assignment (including carpentry, electrical, painting, locksmithing) Explain your experience and qualifications in detail on the application. (Part-time experience will be pro-rated) OR SUBSTITUTION : A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and / or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years. OR Lived Experience Qualifications : Four (4) years working experience volunteering on a construction project, repairing or renovating existing structures, working in disaster relief efforts, or working for a family-owned construction company, etc.

Required Competencies

  • Operating Equipment & Tools : Knowledge of equipment & tools to repair and work on HVAC, Drywall, Plumbing, Painting, Flooring, and Remodel Projects.
  • Customer Service : Providing customer service while working on projects around staff and students.
  • Building & Construction Skills : Knowledge of how to repair roof, repair damaged drywall, masonry, HVAC Repairs, Remodel including demolition, framing, hanging & finishing drywall, install flooring, Painting, Plumbing.
  • Public Safety : Keeping safety in mind while working on all projects.
  • Communication : Able to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff.
  • Maintenance and Custodial : Basic knowledge of landscaping, equipment maintenance, Floor care, disinfecting surfaces, washing vehicles, trash, recycling and snow removal.
  • Technology : Record time sheets, input work orders / data base, read and send emails.
  • Necessary Special Requirement & Conditions of Employment

    Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver's License to operate company vehicles. Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check in include a motor vehicle record (MVR) as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or convictions of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to the job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide Front Range Community College, Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.

    NOTE

    An essential function of this position requires exertion of up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and / or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects (i.e. lifting equipment, pushing grounds equipment, removing snow, etc.). It also requires constant or frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling and reaching. A successful candidate must be able to follow verbal communications and be able to read and comprehend written directions on labels, machinery and in manuals, etc. Also, must be able to interpret written directives, policies, guidelines and memos.
