The consultant will work with welding operations across the country to advise on process improvements, safety standards, fixturing, welding codes, and weld technician qualification. The primary function of this role is to bridge the gap in technical knowledge and tribal knowledge between skilled welders and the engineering and operations teams. Support is provided for a variety of welding operations, with a focus on gas metal arc welding (MIG), which can be robotic / automated or manual. The consultant will audit, travel on-site to review processes and welding procedures for clients, and write reports on their findings and recommendations.

Job Description

Responsibilities

• Audit and review welding processes and procedures for clients.
• Write reports on findings and provide recommendations for process improvements.
• Witness procedure qualification tests at customer sites and document the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
• Oversee weld repairs during shutdowns at industrial plants for maintenance.
• Work remotely and flexibly when not traveling; align work schedules with clients during travel.

Work Environment

The role offers the flexibility of remote work from anywhere in the US, with off-shift hours when not traveling. Travel may constitute up to 50%, with many clients located in Michigan, Indiana, and the Toledo area. The position supports a startup operation that is less than two years old, providing an exciting opportunity to help bridge the gap between skilled welders and mechanical engineering / operations.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $52.00 / hr.
