ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

We ensure a full-spectrum of high quality, whole-person care.  Promoting member education, preventive services, care coordination, and evidence-based treatments are core to our mission. NHP partners include Centennial Mental Health Center, North Range Behavioral Health, Salud Family Health Centers, and Sunrise Community Health.  NHP is the Regional Accountable Entity (RAE) designated to provide high quality physical and behavioral health services to Health First Colorado (Medicaid) Members in Region 2, comprised of 10 counties in northeastern Colorado.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Scientist plays a critical role in driving data-informed decision-making across the organization. This position is responsible for developing predictive models, conducting statistical analyses, and generating actionable insights to support healthcare operations and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative problem solver who can translate complex data into clear, impactful solutions for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, clean, process, and analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Identify gaps in data and identify new data sources for performance measure calculations
  • Analyze HEDIS data, Medicaid claims, encounters, and eligibility data to identify trends, gaps, cost savings and opportunities for improvement.
  • Design, build, and deploy high level reports to address business challenges and enhance strategic planning.
  • Apply statistical methods to test hypotheses, validate models, and ensure analytical rigor.
  • Develop dashboards, reports, and data visualizations using tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Collaborate with quality, clinical, finance and business teams to define data needs and deliver customized solutions.
  • Maintain and improve data pipelines and systems to ensure data integrity and availability for analysis.
  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in data science, healthcare analytics, and industry best practices.
  • Document methodologies, tools, and findings to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
  • Travel throughout Colorado and Region 2 as needed to support programmatic and organizational needs.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Education / Credentials :

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data science, computer science, or a related analytical field.
  • Proven experience in, data mining, and statistical techniques to real-world problems.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of data pipeline architecture and tools.
  • Other Skills / Abilities :

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex data to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently and prioritize effectively.
  • Comfortable working in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Project management knowledge and experience is a plus.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS

    Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment; however, a hybrid work model may be offered, blending in-office and remote work opportunities based on organizational needs and job requirements. Some meetings will occur at locations outside of the usual work location, including the use of conference and electronic meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, GoToMeeting). All positions require travel within the counties NHP serves.
