Job Summary
The Biobank Lab Assistant will be responsible for accessioning, inventorying, and organizing biospecimens into the research database as well as the archival specimen storage; entering and managing research database information and updates; and obtaining appropriate specimens for individual research projects. In addition, the Lab Assistant will work closely with Department of Urology to assist in an ongoing research project to digitize pathology H&E slides in Urology for current and future research projects by obtaining appropriate specimens, cataloging and recording all information about specimens into the research database, de-identifying and preparing slides, loading and unloading slides into the scanner, and performing quality control checks of the digital images.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $21.47 - $25.29 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Pathology and Urology at UCSF aims to achieve the highest standards in patient care, research and education. The Department provides diagnostic pathology services in a wide variety of subspecialties with highly trained subspecialists who are recognized nationally and internationally for their expertise. The Department's research programs are diverse and interface with a wealth of basic and translational research programs that are a hallmark of UCSF. Our educational programs include a research-intensive academic residency program and fellowships in cytopathology, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal and liver pathology, gynecologic pathology, neuropathology, breast pathology, genitourinary pathology, molecular and laboratory genetics and genomics pathology, and surgical pathology.
With long term collaboration between UCSF Urology and Pathology, the Urology Biospecimens Banks and Informatic Technology (UBANK IT) serves as a dedicated urology research biorepository and bio-digitalization. UBANKIT collects and curates tissue and fluid biospecimens, as well as corresponding clinical data collected from genitourinary patients and provided for academic and external research. The UBANK IT specimens consist of research specimens collected from prostate, renal, and bladder cancer patients and includes ambient formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue and H&E slides, as well as frozen blood, body fluids and tissue stored at -80 C. These comprehensive collection enables divers research applications, supporting translational study, biomarker discovery, and precision oncology initiatives.
