Summary :

The Nursing Care Technician position at Bayhealth is designed for student nurses in their final year of (or recently graduated from) an ADN or BSN accredited Nursing Program who have successfully completed at least one semester of a medical / surgical clinical rotation. The position is year-round and provides the exposure and experience in an acute care setting. The position, under the direction of the RN, uses evidence-based practices in approach to patient care. The position demonstrates value, encouragement and empowerment of nursing practice and provides advancement through education and tenure within organization. Role emphasizes socialization, growth and enculturation within the RN practice model, by guiding transition from academia to practice.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES :

1. Participates in RN assessments, care planning, and patient education. Involved in shared governance activities, conducting quality improvement audits, interdisciplinary communication , transitioning of care and understanding medication management.

2. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures including plan of care development, reviews patient data and refining critical thinking skills.

3. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse duties such as non-sterile dressing changes, wound irrigation, foley catheter irrigation, application of ace wraps,preparing IV tubing system, IV access removal, sunctioning, articulation of medication management, bladder scans, EKG's, the application of telemetry monitoring may be assigned.

4. Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units.

5. Communicates interdisciplinary, relevant patient information to a professional nurse within appropriate time based on level of urgency. Reports problems immediately to a professional nurse.

6. Holds professional standard parallel to RN including supporting initiatives of safety, No Pass Zone, High reliability expectations and use of AIDET.

7. Performs patient care based on established guidelines to diagnostic and therapeutic exams; i.e., NPO for labs or xrays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests.

8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL :

• Education High School or Equivalent

Must be actively enrolled in the last (senior) year as an ADN or BSN Nursing Student who has completed one rotation of medical surgical clinical in acute care setting. ~ OR ~ An eligible recent ADN or BSN grad for up to 90 days pending RN licensure.

EXPERIENCE :

Required : Completion of one semester of Medical Surgical Clinical.

Preferred : Proven skill development through CCT position.
