Must-Have :

RN's must be able to read strips and have experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone.

Experience with TR Bands is a huge plus.

Description :

Unit is a combination of Medsurg and cardiac Observation.

There are 21 beds, usually staffed for 18.

The average patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 : 6.

Required certifications include BLS and ACLS.

Common diagnoses include pre / post Cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacemakers, and arrhythmias.

RN's are responsible for reading and interpreting strips.

They also have access to real-time viewing monitors on the unit.

Charge Nurses are available on the unit 24 / 7.

During the day, a Charge Nurse may take patients, but Night Charge Nurses always take patients.

Nurse aides are available, with ratios of 1 : 10, but can occasionally be 1 : 14-15 depending on census and staffing.

Duties include performing EKGs, bladder scans, FSBS, activities of daily living, and vital signs.

Supported equipment includes BiPAP and CPAP, but high flow is not used.

Shifts consist of 12-hour blocks from 7 AM to 7 PM or 7 PM to 7 AM.

Requests for time off must be made in advance.

Travelers are generally expected to work every other weekend, while permanent staff works every third weekend.

Holidays are rotated among permanent staff, with travelers potentially asked to work if unit needs arise.

Travelers may float to different units in the hospital, including higher acuity areas, but will only be assigned patients within their skillset.

The dress code requires royal blue scrubs, and scrub jackets must be actual scrub jackets.

The unit is known for being busy and fast-paced, capable of discharging up to 6 patients per day and handling 6+ admissions.

Cancellation policies allow for the cancellation of 2 shifts during the 13-week assignment.

The charting system used is EPIC.
