Job Summary :
EH&S Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring our work sites are safe and comply with all environmental and safety regulations and policies. Responsibilities include developing and implementing environmental and safety policies and procedures, managing the review and audit process of facilities and operations to maintain compliance with ISO 14001, OSHA and related regulations. This position manages EHS reporting (internal and external), workers compensation, best practice standardization and compliance related matters.
This position provides functional direction and guidance to EHS personnel the company may have at each plant.
Main Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
Environmental
- Ensure adherence to ISO 14001 standards and lead recertification audits.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards including management and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
- Implement compliance calendar items for the program.
- Identify, propose and implement improvements to the ISO 14001 program.
- Manage and keep up to date all documentation and reports including training records.
- Conduct regular meetings with the management team to inform status of the program and any open items.
Health & Safety
Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility in the organization.Develop and implement required health and safety programs.Identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate risk.Conduct monthly H&S audits to ensure compliance with regulations and identification of areas for improvement. Present findings / reports with corrective and preventive actions to management team. Follow up for timely completion of corrective and preventive actions and report status of open and closed actions on a weekly basis to the respective Plant Manager.Establish an effective process for incident recording, and reporting to timely inform the management team on all safety incidents especially recordables. Keep updated records of incidents.Timely report, manage and follow up on all workers’ compensation related incidents / claims. Coordinate with medical providers and workers compensation insurance carrier to ensure a prompt return to work of injured employees.Conduct quarterly meetings with the workers compensation insurance carrier for status and action plan to close active claims.Timely close all incident reports by completing an investigation for each incident and establishing corrective and preventive actions. Follow up for timely completion of corrective and preventive actions resulting from reported safety incidents and report status of open and closed actions on a weekly basis to the respective Plant Manager.Implement required employee training including accurate record keeping.Ensure training program of special skill sets and requirements are conducted and maintained (LOTO, Forklift, and all other OSHA required training both at hire and annually).Implement, facilitate and maintain Safety Committees including recruitment of committee members, training, meetings, performance of audits.Serve as a first respondent as needed.Participate in quarterly plant-wide meetings to communicate to employees the status of EHS program and key metrics.Remain up to date on changes in environmental and safety regulations and maintain a solid working knowledge of the regulations.Partner with PPE supplier to ensure timely stocking of PPE and address any issues with PPE / janitorial supplies.Liaison with Toyota Safety and Security.Support second and third shift based on the needs of the business.Reporting and Compliance
Collect and prepare necessary information and documentation on safety and environmental incidents for accurate and timely KPI tracking, internal reporting (e.g. daily safety cross, SLT scorecard, monthly KPIs), and compliance reporting (e.g. OSHA reporting – severe injuries, fatalities, 300 Log, 300A Form).Interface with regulatory bodies such as OSHA, EPA, etc.. and respond to complaints and inspections as needed.#zr
Requirements : Education :
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, industrial engineering, or closely related field preferred, or high school diploma plus 8 years of equivalent work related experience in lieu of degree.Experience :
Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience as Safety Coordinator, Specialist or Manager in multi-site companies in fast-paced manufacturing environments, automotive preferred.Deep understanding of EH&S regulations and standards.Experience in implementing and managing EHS programs, standards, and procedures.Strong training and coaching skills to guide employees on safety protocols and procedures.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :
OSHA 30-hour general industry card and OSHA #511 certificate.OSHA #501 Trainer for General Industry, a plus.CSP a plusComputer Skills :
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and in the use of e-mail, web browser applications.Proficiency in using safety management software and other relevant tools, preferredMathematical Abilities :
Intermediate-advanced math skills.Analytical or Reasoning Abilities :
Strong analytical, planning skills and critical thinking ability required with orientation for continuous improvement.Ability to understand and follow written technical procedures / instructions.Ability to effectively prepare business and technical documentation such as policies, procedures, reports, presentations, etc.Communication Skills : (Writing, Foreign Language, Reasoning)
Ability to read, write and speak EnglishHighly effective, articulate communication skills (verbal & written) with strong interpersonal effectiveness and the ability to work with all levels in the organization and across cultures.Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.Other Skills (Technical, or Other special knowledge and abilities)

This position may require about 5% travel to domestic and international locations.Physical Requirements :
About 60% of the time will be spent on the shop floor completing work related to the position while the remaining time will be spent doing administrative related work on a computer and working with basic office equipment (fax, printer, phone, etc.)Must be able to lift 25 pounds individually and team lift 50 poundsMust be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures without endangering the health or safety of self or others.
Must wear all personal protective equipment where required.#zr
