Job Summary

Participate and consistently contribute to planning, design, implementation, verification, deployment, and support activities for custom software components and applications. May perform task management activities for other software engineers.

The Software Engineer, Senior Specialist Level is a senior professional with strong job area knowledge and broad knowledge of project management, managing complex projects and processes with general oversight to achieve operational targets and goals with direct impact on team and departmental results.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in planning, design, implementation, verification, deployment, and support activities for software components and applications.
  • May perform task management activities for other software engineers.
  • Mentor less experienced team members as appropriate.
  • Effectively manage multiple task assignments and track status of tasks, deliverables, and issues.
  • Adhere to corporate processes and standards for all activities and deliverables across the software development life cycle.
  • Interact with engineering team and program management to analyze and understand requirements; translate requirements into technical designs.
  • Unit and component test software components and applications to ensure quality of deliverables.
  • Provide input and effort for the technical verification of requirements prior to delivery.
  • Present technical designs to software engineering, program management, and other team members.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to address requirement violations in functional testing and production software as needed.
  • Acquire and maintain a Secret security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of relevant technologies, software development methodologies, and programming languages.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design / development principles.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory standards impact on software development.
  • Strong knowledge of unit, component, and integration testing.
  • Strong knowledge of source code management and defect tracking.
  • Ability to effectively utilize written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to identify complex problems and provide multiple solutions.
  • Ability to understand, create, and communicate complex design specifications.
  • Ability to break down assignments into work tasks with effort and schedule estimates; successfully achieve them.
  • Ability to promote corporate ethics and teamwork within the organization.
  • Understanding and ability to implement Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance, which requires US citizenship.
  • Preferred Skills (beyond required)

  • Understanding and utilization of UML (Unified Modeling Language).
  • Ability to identify and apply design patterns.
  • Azure DevOps source control (GIT) and pipeline development (YAML).
  • Hardware / API development experience is preferred; Link16 experience is a plus.
  • TCP / UDP experience is also preferred.
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles.
  • Experience with multithreaded application development.
  • Experience integrating 3rd party hardware and software components.
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and work experience and a minimum of 6 years of progressively advanced object-oriented software development experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of progressively advanced object-oriented software development experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of progressively advanced object-oriented software development experience.
