Job Summary

The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech Language Pathologist 1, reports to the Clinical Supervisor Speech Language Pathology / Rehab Service Manager and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. This is the entry-level staff therapist position designed for the new graduate with less than 12 months experience as a licensed therapist. The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1 works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1, plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with a variety of voice, swallowing and upper airway impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using speech language pathology tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech language pathology scope of practice. The Entry Level Speech Pathologist 1 maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1, may also supervise support personnel, student interns and SLP Clinical Fellows. The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1 actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in-services and staff development activities.

Required Qualifications

• Possession of a degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited professional educational program.
• Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
• Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize signs of distress.
• Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
• Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
