Position Summary : The Analytical Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily laboratory operations, managing laboratory technicians, and ensuring the quality and efficiency of analytical testing processes. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and quality control. The Analytical Laboratory Supervisor must maintain a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement while fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. This position requires both technical expertise and people management skills to ensure efficient laboratory operations and high-quality analytical results.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback to laboratory staff
  • Create and manage work schedules to ensure adequate laboratory coverage
  • Identify training needs and develop technical training programs
  • Handle personnel issues and maintain positive team dynamics
  • Participate in hiring and onboarding of new laboratory staff
  • Oversee all analytical testing procedures and ensure compliance with SOPs
  • Review and approve analytical test results and laboratory documentation
  • Troubleshoot complex analytical problems and equipment issues
  • Validate new analytical methods and procedures
  • Maintain laboratory equipment calibration and qualification programs
  • Evaluate and implement new analytical technologies and methods
  • Ensure proper maintenance of laboratory instruments and facilities
  • Maintain compliance with GMP, ISO, and other relevant quality standards
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Investigate out-of-specification results and laboratory deviations
  • Ensure proper documentation of all laboratory activities
  • Monitor quality control metrics and implement improvements
  • Maintain laboratory safety programs and chemical hygiene plans
  • Administrative Duties

  • Manage laboratory budget and resources
  • Monitor inventory levels and approve purchase requests
  • Generate and review laboratory reports and documentation
  • Coordinate with other departments (Production, QA, R&D)
  • Participate in management meetings and quality review boards
  • Maintain records of equipment maintenance and calibration
  • Oversee laboratory waste management programs
  • Education

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related scientific field
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of analytical laboratory experience
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a regulated laboratory environment
  • Strong background in analytical chemistry and laboratory operations
  • Experience with quality management systems and regulatory compliance
  • Technical Skills

  • Expert knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation
  • Proficiency in LIMS and laboratory data management systems
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis and data trending
  • Experience with method validation and technology transfer
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (FDA, EPA, ISO, etc.)
  • Leadership Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop staff
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE
  • May involve standing for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work
  • Some travel may be required (5-10%)
