  • Primary Objectives The Physical Education Teacher is a professional staff member responsible for creating, coordinating, and implementing educational lessons to children, adolescents, and adults.
  • The Physical Education Teacher will teach physical education and healthy options by providing support, encouragement, and education.
  • The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for leading, teaching, inspiring, and providing guidance while effectively overseeing daily Physical Education activities within the Community Services Division.

  • Essential Functions Brings daily inspiration to students and staff, creating a fun, loving, learning environment Assists in the implementation of all policies governing student conduct and developing reasonable rules of behavior.
  • Maintains order in a fair and just manner.
  • Cultivates and maintains excellent communication with students, FLM department / school staff, CSD department, and parents.
  • Organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Attends / enrolls in training to maintain teacher certification active status.
  • Responsible for creating and administering health information, physical education information and / or exercise programs for children adolescents, and adults to decrease / eliminate high-risk behavior and foster engagement.
  • Develops and conducts onsite health-related classes, trainings, programs, and / or lectures to children adolescents, and adults.
  • Develops and distributes health education materials.
  • Creates and implements health and / or physical education-based lesson plans.
  • Evaluates and differentiates learning based on student’s ability, performance, knowledge, and skills within set guidelines or policy.
  • Analyzes, demonstrates, and teaches basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of games, rhythms, fundamentals of body movement, as well as team sports.
  • Properly interprets and makes decisions in accordance with appropriate laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts health classes, exercise classes, and nutritional classes.
  • Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and for maintaining order among students.
  • Keeps parents up to date on their child’s progress and any problems occurring in the classroom.
  • Praises and supports children using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Acts as a leader among staff and parents, instilling confidence in ability to guide the program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
  • Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education, Education, or related field required.
  • Must have a Class A or B physical education certification or obtain within one hundred eighty (180) days of employment.
  • Two (2) years of successful employment experience required as a leading Physical Education Teacher required.
  • Must possess and maintain First Aid / CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain within the first week of employment.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

  • Must possess a character that earns the confidence of the participants, parents, and community, and minimizes public criticism or complaints.

  • Must be physically fit and able to stand, walk, run, reach, kneel, or crouch throughout their work hours and frequently lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds.

  • Compensation and Benefits The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
