About the Role
A Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and
support of our mainframe environment, including hardware and software. This role involves a broad range of technical skills and responsibilities, including installing and maintaining software, troubleshooting system issues, and providing technical support. They also play a key role in performance tuning, disaster recovery planning, and ensuring system availability and security.
Education and Experience
Four-year degree and at least eight years' experience as a Systems Programmer.
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience including at least eight years as a Systems
Programmer.
Thorough knowledge of the design, programming, installation, and maintenance of computer
software, training techniques, and the establishment of software standards.
Experience with zSeries software including z / OS, CICS, and DB2.
Experience with USS is a benefit.
Required Skills and Abilitie s
z / OS Expertise : Deep understanding of the z / OS operating system and its components including but not limited to TSO, ISPF, VTAM and SDSF.
Systems Programming Languages : Proficient in languages like JCL, COBOL and assembler knowledge would be a plus but not required.
Hardware and Software Knowledge : Understanding of mainframe hardware, DASD management, virtual tape management (Luminex) and various IBM and ISV software products.
Communication and Collaboration : Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with other teams and communicate technical information effectively.
Problem Solving and Analytical Skills : Ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
