The Dakota Rogers Project is a newer non-profit. We have a small board and big ideas. Volunteers are needed to help speed the process of growing supporters, attend local events to build awareness and assist in upcoming fundraising projects. Our need is ongoing. We are looking for those committed to mental wellness, pet-friendly and concerned over gun violence. Those elements are what lead our existance. While we have a list of tasks on towards our bigger goal, below is our story.
The Dakota Rogers Project aims to build joy out of tragedy. 18-year-old Dakota was a bright and bold person who brought life to everyone he met. On Oct 16, 2022, an incident of senseless gun violence by 2 strangers, ended life for Dakota and left his friend paralyzed. It’s a story told far too often.
The vision of The Dakota Rogers Project is to transform the pain which comes with loss into something of hope. The park constructed for both humans and dogs to enjoy, will be a community-focused space with an emphasis on mental well-being.
Let us paint you a picture; a 25" tree of life, branches reaching high and strong, the roots spread between small dog and large dog side of the park joining them together. The weaving poles are designed as large individual KitKat sticks, every bench is designed to be different and unique, built through Eagle scout projects, living Graffiti walls share messages from the park’s visitors expressing their hope, struggles and continue as a voice for our community, shipping containers house daybeds providing seating and shelter. And it's all built by our community to join, heal, and strengthen us.
