Nurse Clerk - Patient Care
Under the direction of a supervisor, performs clerical and office work of a repetitive and routine nature requiring accurate typing and knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies and procedures. Nurse Clerk - Patient Care will be performing a variety of general and advanced clerical tasks including maintenance of file systems, logs, and records and compiling information to assist in the efficient accomplishment of support activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Serve as liaison for outside institutions and medical facilities regarding obtaining medical information and medical care for inmates, to include scheduling, establishing priority, securing approval, arranging transportation, coordinating routine and emergency medical transfers with institution officials and receiving institutions
- Serve as the contact person in dealing with community hospitals and contact consultants relating to the Health Services Department billing, and scheduling of patient appointments and procedures
- Responsible for prioritizing assigned tasks, soliciting feedback, preparing and consolidating reports and retrieving and maintaining records for both County and State Reports
- Responsible for processing medical and other administrative documents, to include updating, maintaining, researching, inventorying of records
- Along with the other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required of this position
- Schedule medical, dental and onsite physical therapy appointments
- Perform inmate-patient scheduling for both in house and outside facility appointments
- Prepare inmate-patient paperwork for outside provider appointments as needed
- Initiate the medical record by creating and processing the patient care record folder and maintain scanned documents in the electronic medical record
- Ensure availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records
- Perform other clerical duties such as scanning; photocopying; ordering and issuing supplies; and sending, receiving, sorting, and distributing mail
- Answer telephone calls in a courteous and efficient manner, route incoming calls to appropriate departments, or takes messages
- Review all inmate intake paperwork for errors and completion
- Send Request of Information via fax to inmate-patient providers to obtain past medical information
- Scan Request of information returns in a timely manner and create tasks to appropriate team members (Mental Health NP, HOTBHN, Medical Providers and Nursing)
- Scan dental visit paperwork in CorEMR
- Assist with preparing chain for transport paperwork in EDOC and CorEMR
- Send requests to United States Marshal Service to obtain approval for treatment / services
- Work with Judge's office and HOTBHN in compliance with Sandra Bland Act
- Send off all doctor referrals for inmate-patient
- Facilitate background checks as requested for outside providers coming in to facility
- Oversee in-house medical billing
- Maintain stats and activity logs for in house and State (Pregnancy, CCQ, etc.)
- Regular attendance and timeliness are required
EDUCATION :
High School diploma or GEDSKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE :
2 years of clerical experience.
