About The Position

Job Title : Scrub Technologist

Experience : Minimum 3 years

License : Trade or Technical School (Certificate or Diploma)

Certifications : Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting

Must-Have : At least one year previous experience preferred

Description :

Per the standards of the Association of Surgical Technologists, surgical technologists work under the direct supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures.

The scrub technologist is responsible for ensuring the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

The scrub technologist handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.

The technologist has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.

Duties of the technologist include checking supplies and equipment needed for a procedure.

The technologist scrubs, gowns, and gloves self, surgeon, and assistants.

The technologist performs appropriate counts with the circulator prior to the operation and before the incision is closed.

They assist in draping the sterile field.

They pass instruments to the surgeon during the procedure.

The technologist maintains the highest standard of sterile technique.

They assist with the terminal cleaning of the room.

They clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization and assist in prepping the surgical suite for the next patient.

The scrub technologist is also responsible for working with new employees and students and helping train them in the scrub technologist role.

The technologist is not permitted to function in the circulating nurse role or the first assistant role and is restricted from administering medications and completing patient records.
