Overview
The RLA ProtoStudio team lead will be responsible for overseeing the four product development lab spaces within Resmed's new Calabasas facility. This is a hands-on role which also leads a small team of technicians to ensure the labs maintain safety, compliance, and efficiency standards. The labs house dedicated motorized blower prototyping tools, test and verification equipment, and state of the art acoustic test capabilities. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in the development of Resmed's next generation motorized blower solutions.
Responsibilities
- The primary objective of the Engineering Technician Team Lead within Technical Support (PD) Job Family is to support engineering activities such as design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype mechanical systems, experimental design electronics or specialized test equipment.
- This role leads a small team of engineering technicians and is responsible for the safety, productivity, and compliance of the laboratory spaces. Hands-on technical work will also be required to directly support the team.
- This includes utilizing applications such as prototype mechanical components and electronic circuits.
- Engineering technicians work on schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to create designs, prototype components, perform testing and trouble-shooting functions.
- This also includes performing operational test and fault isolation on systems, infrastructure and electronic test tools.
- Engineering technicians assist in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions and in the design, construction and test of prototype parts and associated test equipment.
- The area of specialism also uses manufacturing, test, development or diagnostic equipment, including, but not limited to, test programs, oscilloscopes, signal generators, milling machines, lathes and specialized test apparatus.
- Performs work in a specialized area of expertise that requires knowledge of fundamental themes, principles and concepts. Typically requires a university degree or equivalent work experience.
- Responsibilities might include : (1) Performing routine professional-based activities (early in career); (2) Contributing to and managing projects (mid-career); (3) Providing advice / direction in primary areas of expertise (specialist and expert).
- Builds productive internal / external working relationships.
Qualifications and Experience
Required : Prior experience leading a team is generally required to be successful in this role.Hands on experience using mechanical and electrical prototyping equipment including CNC Mill & Lathe, hand tools, soldering irons, etc.Hand on experience using mechanical and electrical testing equipment including Instron (or similar) machines, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, etc.Associates degree or equivalent work experience.Strong attention to detail with the ability to generate detailed assembly and test procedures.Strong written and verbal communication and ability to build strong working relationships.Ability to receive inputs to set and maintain organized laboratory priorities based on business need.Preferred : Prior experience in Medical devices or other regulated industry.Prior experience working with electric motor design, or pneumatic blower design is highly valued.Bachelor’s degree.Minimum of 5 years of related experience.Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.Benefits and Additional Information

Individual pay decisions are based on a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s geographic work location, relevant qualifications, work experience, and skills. At ResMed, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this position is : $111,000 - $167,000.
