Overview

Carl D. Perkins Corps Center Career Counselor opportunity in the Career Development Services department. This position is exempt and reports to the Counseling Manager. The description describes the responsibilities, qualifications, and expectations for the role.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and conducts individual and group counseling sessions for assigned students
• Maintains personal and anecdotal records on assigned students
• Assists students in seeking advanced training opportunities, such as technical training or college admission
• Maintains communications with parents, guardians and Admissions Counselors regarding the resolution of students' problems
• Establishes meaningful working relationships with other staff members and acts as a resource to help these individuals deal positively with student behavior
• Visits classrooms and dormitories to establish working relationships with instructors and residential advisors; serves as liaison between students and these departments
• Develops referrals and receives copies of all individual progress reports and disciplinary hearings; provides follow-up information
• Serves as a member of committees to review policies and procedures related to the counseling program and the Center's operation as directed
• Transports students to and from bus stations and other scheduled appointments when necessary
• Works toward meeting performance management goals
• Maintains good housekeeping in all areas and complies with safety practices
• Models appropriate employability skills for dress, language and work habits; continuously helps students become more employable

Qualifications

Experience : Minimum of one year experience in counseling or related field.

Education : Bachelor's degree, including at least 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : Valid State Driver's License.
