Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Intensive Care (MSIC) Travel Position

Location : Fort Wayne, IN

Job Type : Travel Contract

Duration : 13 weeks

Shift : 3×12 Days (5 : 00 AM – 5 : 00 PM)

Pay : $2,176.20 / week (plus $2,500 completion bonus per contract, up to $7,500 after three contracts)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Medical Surgical Intensive Care (MSIC) Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week travel assignment in Fort Wayne, IN. The MSIC RN will provide advanced critical care for high-acuity patients, including complex neuro and trauma cases. The role requires a strong background in critical care nursing, exceptional clinical judgment, and the ability to manage multiple complex patients in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

This is an auto-offer position for qualified candidates. Travelers must reside at least 50 miles from the facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive critical care nursing to patients with complex medical, surgical, neuro, and trauma conditions.
  • Monitor, assess, and evaluate patient conditions, implementing care plans to address rapidly changing clinical needs.
  • Manage ventilators, titrate drips, and perform advanced clinical procedures per ICU standards.
  • Maintain patient ratios of 2 : 1, with occasional 3 : 1 assignments for stable patients based on rotation and staffing needs.
  • Float as required between the 3rd Floor Trauma ICU (MSIC) and the 4th Floor Neuro ICU (ICU4).
  • Administer prescribed medications, perform assessments, and document accurately using the Cerner EMR system.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other members of the critical care team to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Participate in emergency response situations and support the care of patients requiring 1 : 1 critical management.
  • Attend orientation and required training including Cerner charting, compliance, and glucometer use.
  • Adhere to all hospital and unit safety, infection control, and clinical protocols.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in Indiana or a compact state (required).
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent ICU experience in a high-acuity setting.
  • Strong background in neuro and trauma critical care.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications (required).
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test.
  • Experience with Cerner EMR preferred.
  • Strong clinical judgment, multitasking ability, and attention to detail in high-pressure environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility (local candidates not accepted).
