Job Description :
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Associate Construction Manager to join our growing team in Long Beach, CA. This hybrid role combines on-site coordination with office-based project management, supporting commercial construction projects such as restaurant builds, retail spaces, and tenant improvements (TI).
You will work closely with senior managers to :
- Conduct site visits, document progress, and coordinate subcontractor activities
- Monitor general contractor (GC) performance and ensure alignment with project goals
- Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and compile daily field reports
- Maintain document control systems and track RFIs, submittals, and change orders
- Review construction drawings and specifications to ensure project readiness
- Assist in contract reviews, scope validation, and proposal evaluations
- Support project closeout including punch lists, warranties, and as-built documentation
- Develop and manage project schedules using tools like MS Project, Primavera, and Procore
- Track progress against baseline schedules and implement recovery strategies for delays
- Monitor project costs, manage budget reports, and help resolve overruns
- Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and enforce safety compliance
- Ensure quality control through inspections and punch walks
- Communicate effectively with owners, architects, consultants, and field teams
- Resolve conflicts and explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders
- Identify and manage critical path activities and mitigate risks such as weather delays or material shortages
- Troubleshoot construction defects and collaborate on solutions
Required Skills & Experience :
3–5 years of experience in commercial construction, especially retail, restaurant, and office TI projectsProficiency in Procore, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and Adobe toolsExperience with project scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera)Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, red lining and submittal processesFamiliarity with cost tracking, budget management, and financial reportingKnowledge of direct vs. indirect costs and general conditionsField experience in safety compliance, subcontractor coordination, and quality controlAbility to manage contracts, scopes of work, and project documentationExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressureAbility to explain technical concepts to clients and stakeholders with varying levels of construction knowledgeProblem-solving mindset with experience handling construction delays, defects, and site issues
