Minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with analysis applications (e.g., extracting insights, performing statistical analysis, or solving business problems) and coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), or 2 years of experience with a Master's degree.

Preferred qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Ability to read and apply quantitative methodologies from books, papers, etc.
  • Ability to take open-ended problems, provide better definition and eventually solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with data.

    Help serve Google's worldwide user base of more than a billion people. Data Scientists provide quantitative support, market understanding and a strategic perspective to our partners throughout the organization. As a data-loving member of the team, you serve as an analytics expert for your partners, using numbers to help them make better decisions. You will weave stories with meaningful insight from data. You'll make critical recommendations for your fellow Googlers in Engineering and Product Management. You relish tallying up the numbers one minute and communicating your findings to a team leader the next.

    Within YouTube Data Science, the Music and Premium Data Science team is the home for all music products and podcasts at Google, along with efforts to grow our paid users (e.g., Premium, Nitrate, Commerce, and Growth). It is a critical area both for expanding Google's subscriptions growth as well as showcasing innovation to transform our products using AI tools.

    In this role, you will be the go-to Data Scientist within YouTube Music for a large organization of cross-functional partners (including Product Management, Engineering, UX Research, UX, Product Operations, etc.) and perform exploratory data analysis on user activity, videos, and music data to uncover insights that drive our growth strategy and build the metrics that our annual efforts revolve around. You would also work alongside other cross-functional partners to build and enhance LTV models, understand return on investment dynamics across paid products, enhance ML promo ranking systems, create models and define metrics for improved user experiences, and uncover actionable data-driven insights that inform our product roadmaps and strategy.

    Responsibilities

  • Perform exploratory data analysis on user activity, videos, and music data to uncover insights that drive our growth strategy and build the metrics that our annual efforts revolve around.
  • Gain an understanding of various parts of the music business and product strategy so that you can scope out impactful analytical problems in partnership with Product Management and Engineering. Give presentations of your work at large, VP-level forums.
  • Develop statistical models and simulations that help us determine the way to implement various changes on the product and business side.
  • Work with Nitrate Engineering and Product teams to improve promo efficiency (i.e. reduce promos that cause user annoyance).
  • Conduct Nitrate Geo experiments, user-randomized experiments, and time-series causal inference to evaluate Marketing and Partnerships ROI and efficiency. Expand lifetime value (LTV) coverage across paid products.
