The Berlin-Peck Memorial Library in Berlin, CT is seeking an enthusiastic and tech-savvy individual to join our Children’s / Teen team! Under the supervision of the Head of Children’s & Teen Services, the Part-Time Children’s Librarian plans and conducts engaging programming for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children; provides reference and readers’ advisory services; designs activities and materials that promote a love of libraries and reading; creates publicity; provides outreach services at local schools and daycares; and assists with programming and other duties in our new Makerspace.
Job Title : Children’s Librarian (part-time) Hours : (17) per week – Tues : 10am – 4pm / Wed : 2pm – 8pm / Thur : 3pm – 8pm / Sat : rotating schedule
Union Affiliation : Professionals Non-Union Starting Salary : $30.72 / hour
Function : Under the direction of the Head of Children’s and Teen Services, is responsible for staffing the Children’s Services Desk; planning, developing and presenting children’s programs; and materials selection.
Typical Duties, Responsibilities, Tasks & Assignments :
Special Skills & Requirements : Master’s in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution is preferred. Experience working with children (preferably in a library setting) is necessary. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with others and be committed to serving the needs of young library users, their families, and caregivers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to obtain and replace books from shelving in the stacks and on all levels, walking and standing for extended time periods and carrying a reasonable selection of materials between places where they are stored and places where they are used within the building.
