Overview
Candidate will provide overall technical writing support to the 53d Test and Evaluation Group (53d TEG) Experimental Operations Unit (EOU). Essential job functions will include but may not be limited to :
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive documentation plan for experimental operations projects, outlining required documents, timelines, and stakeholder responsibilities.
- Identify documentation needs early in the project lifecycle by collaborating with engineers, operators, maintainers, program managers, and logisticians.
- Define documentation standards, templates, and style guides aligned with Air Force instructions (AFIs), military standards (MIL-STDs), and unit-specific requirements.
- Draft, write, and revise highly technical documentation, including Experimental Operations Plans and Procedures, Flight Manuals, Technical Reports, Standard Operating Procedures, System Descriptions and Specifications, and Lessons Learned.
- Establish and maintain robust document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, specialized DMS) to ensure version control, traceability, and accessibility of all documentation.
- Manage the review, approval, and release cycles for all documents, ensuring proper approval from relevant stakeholders (e.g., Unit Commander, Engineers, Operators, Program Managers).
- Conduct thorough editing, proofreading, and peer reviews to eliminate errors and improve readability.
- Act as a central communication point for technical information, bridging the gap between engineers, operators, maintenance personnel, and unit leadership / program management.
- Observe live experimental operations, simulations, lab work, or flight line activities to accurately capture processes, identify nuances, and gather visual information (photos / videos).
- Proactively identify needs for documentation updates based on experimental operations progress, system modifications, or feedback from users.
- Manage the revision and distribution of updated documents to ensure all personnel are working with the most current information.
- Archive historical versions of documents according to Air Force records management policies.
- Engage with SMEs, project leads, and legal / security reviewers to obtain feedback on drafted documents.
- Implement changes based on review comments and ensure all feedback is addressed and documented.
- Format documents for final distribution, ensuring proper classification markings, disclaimers, and distribution statements are applied according to Air Force regulations.
Qualifications
Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Technical Writer.High level understanding of Microsoft 360.5+ years of recent experience (within the last 10 years) with Technical Writing.3+ years working in Technical Writing roles in a military environment.3+ years working in Technical Writing roles in Developmental / Experimental or Operational Flight Test.3+ years working in a classified environment (Secret level or higher).Bachelor's degree OR Associate's Degree + 6 years of Technical Writing experience OR 9 years Technical Writing experience.Ability to obtain and maintain TS SCI / SAP clearances required.Occasional travel is expected based on mission requirements.
