Crossbow Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Associate Scientist - Protein Sciences to join our Antibody Development Team in Cambridge, MA. This individual will contribute to the development and characterization of therapeutic antibodies for both therapeutic applications and research initiatives. This role provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to produce, purify, and analytically characterize antibodies and fusion proteins. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in biochemistry or a related field, along with hands-on experience in protein analytical techniques, production, and purification. Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Design, develop, and implement sophisticated analytical methods using HPLC, binding affinity using BLI instrument, and ELISA for the characterization of antibodies.
  • Conduct comprehensive analyses to assess protein purity and quality using SDS-PAGE, UV / Vis spectroscopy, HPLC tools, and other relevant analytical methods.
  • Execute protein production using mammalian expression systems (e.g., CHO, HEK293) and purification processes for recombinant monoclonal and bispecific antibodies, and other proteins.
  • Utilize a variety of chromatography techniques, including affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography.
  • Support cell-based assay, such as cytotoxicity and cytokine evaluation.
  • Operate and maintain AKTA FPLC systems and analytical HPLC instruments to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Address and resolve technical challenges that arise in protein analytical and purification workflows, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Document and maintain precise records of laboratory activities using an electronic laboratory notebook (Benchling) and communicate findings clearly through written reports and presentations.
  • Actively stay informed about advancements in protein analytical, production, and purification technologies to continuously enhance methodologies.
  • Provide technical and resourcing support to other functional groups as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree + 6 years with relevant experience, Master's + 3 years with relevant experience, or Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Proven hands-on experience with multiple mammalian expression platforms (CHO and HEK293 cells) required
  • Demonstrated track record with analytical development of proteins and antibodies is required.
  • Validated technical understanding and applied technical expertise to develop, optimize, and troubleshoot methods key assays across drug development, including HPLC and UPLC instruments
  • Extensive experience with AKTA instrumentation, in various purification techniques (e.g., affinity, ion exchange, HIC, SEC) as well as protein quality control methods.
  • This position requires on-site work 5 days per week at our office in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
  • Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with therapeutic antibody developability assessments is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills complemented by keen attention to detail.
