A Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them achieve greater independence and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Support : Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
Behavioral Support : Implement behavior plans and support individuals in developing social skills and self-care routines.
Community Engagement : Facilitate participation in community activities and help individuals access resources and services.
Documentation : Maintain accurate records of individuals' progress and any incidents that occur during support sessions.
Safety and Well-being : Ensure a safe environment for individuals, adhering to health and safety regulations and protocols.
Qualifications
Education : A high school diploma or GED is typically required. Some positions may prefer or require an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience : Previous experience in caregiving or support roles is beneficial but not always necessary.
Certifications : Certifications in CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration and other relevant training may be required or provided upon hiring.
Skills Required
Compassion and Empathy : Ability to understand and respond to the needs of individuals with disabilities.
Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with individuals, families, and team members.

Work Environment
