at Canopy Roots + Canopy Mental Health & Consulting

As our Strategic Partnership Specialist, you will play a key role in reviewing, soliciting, and developing all public-private partnership opportunities for Canopy's two sister agencies : Canopy Roots and Canopy Mental Health & Consulting. As a member of the External Affairs Department, the Specialist will act as the lead sales representative for both companies. In partnership with Canopy leadership, the Specialist will support the development of service contracts with local governments, nonprofits, mental health agencies, schools, and universities to ultimately increase Canopy's collective reach and impact in the community. You will report to the Director of External Affairs.

Start Date : As soon as possible

Location : Hybrid, office locations are in Richfield and Northeast Minneapolis. Ability to choose the best location for completing their duties optimally.

Hiring Salary Range : $80,000-$90,000 Starting salary will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role. 0.5% commission of new revenue generated from contracted services

Hours / Day : Monday-Friday, 40+ hours a week – including evenings, and weekends when necessary. (Most work falls roughly between the hours of 9 : 00am-5 : 00pm)

Essential Job Functions

  • Partnership development

Lead the identification and review process of service contracts for :

Canopy Roots with local partners or government entities that support the development of unarmed public safety response services for mental health crises in Minnesota, Midwest, and nationwide.

  • Canopy MHC with local partners that support the increased access of culturally responsive and trauma informed mental health services to historically underserved and marginalized communities in Minnesota
  • Manage the application drafting processes for selected service contracts at Canopy Roots and Canopy MHC in collaboration with the Director of External Affairs, Contract Operations Manager, and Director of Finance.
  • Oversee project timelines and deliverables for proposals and contract submissions, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Support contract negotiations by preparing materials and facilitating communications between Canopy and partner entities led by the Director of External Affairs.
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, nonprofit organizations, mental health agencies, schools, universities, and community leaders.

  • Attend and engage in professional associations focused on (i) the development of unarmed mental health first responder units and (ii) increasing access to mental health services for Black and Brown communities in Minnesota.
  • Collaboration & teamwork
  • Collaborate with the Director of External Affairs and Contract Operations Manager to implement sales strategies.

  • Work closely with other departments within Canopy to ensure proposals, contracts, and external affairs initiatives are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Model a proactive and solutions-oriented approach to teamwork that contributes to a positive team culture.

  • Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 4 years of equivalent professional or lived experience.
  • 1-2 years experience in relevant fields. Applicable fields include, but are not limited to : external affairs, contract management, corporate social responsibility, social impact, brand partnerships, corporate partnerships, grant writing, sales and / or government relations preferably in the mental health, public safety, or government sectors.
  • Strong intrapersonal and interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Understanding of mental health and public safety issues facing Black and other historically underrepresented and marginalized communities in the US.
  • 1-2 years experience in responding, managing, or reviewing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) from local and state governments.
  • Candidates with backgrounds in institutional advancement, philanthropy, or fundraising are encouraged to apply, as these experiences may translate effectively to the skills required for this role.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to organize complex initiatives, manage timelines, and coordinate across multiple stakeholders, are considered a strong asset.

  • Physical Requirements

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines and filing cabinets. This role must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.

We are composed of two sister organizations : (1) Canopy Mental Health & Consulting, and (2) Canopy Roots. The Contract Consultant will work with both organizations.

    Canopy Mental Health & Consulting (MHC) provides high-quality outpatient psychotherapy and psychiatric services with purpose and integrity. We provide culturally affirming therapy services for historically underserved and marginalized communities in Minnesota. Our services are available in-person in Minneapolis and Richfield and via telehealth statewide.

    Canopy Roots is an innovative mental health organization offering culturally affirming unarmed first responder services to people in crisis via 911 in the city of Minneapolis. We promote safety for people in crisis by providing emotional de-escalation strategies, crisis intervention support, and connection to appropriate resources. Crisis Responders are members of the communities they serve, reflecting the wide range of cultural and racial identities and experiences of the people who need our services the most.
