Job Description
Shape Precision on Second Shift — Greenwood, IN
Step into a typical evening on our production floor in Greenwood, IN. You power up your CNC lathe, review the day’s blueprints and planning sheets, and gather the tooling you’ll need. With the setup dialed in and fixtures verified for size, depth, and angle, you align and secure the workpiece, assemble cutters in their holders, and stage them in the magazine. You load the program, calculate speeds / feeds and offsets, and run a careful prove-out. When something needs tweaking, you adjust controls or perform limited manual programming (with Supervisor approval) to bring the part into spec. Throughout the shift, you monitor displays, measure parts, swap tools as needed, and keep the machine running smoothly. Before clocking out, you clean down the area, complete maintenance tasks, and pass on tips to newer teammates.
What You’ll Do
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, and technical data to determine tooling, setup, control settings, and machining sequences.
- Prepare tooling and confirm fixture setups meet quality standards for milling / boring dimensions, depths, and angles.
- Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and workpieces; assemble cutting tools in holders and load into the machine magazine.
- Load control media (tape / card / disk) or retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the database.
- Set machine controls for spindle position, cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
- Conduct prove-outs; perform manual programming during setups only with Supervisor approval.
- Start up and monitor operation; stop to change tools, adjust setup, and verify parts against print.
- Correct out-of-tolerance conditions via commands or manual control adjustments; operate manually when automation falters.
- Collaborate with Supervisor or programming team to resolve control media issues.
- Clean machines, tooling, and parts; perform routine maintenance.
- Follow all policies and safety procedures; wear required PPE.
- Support onboarding by helping train new employees when needed.
