Communication Strategist - Event Coordination - NASA at MORI Associates
MORI Associates is seeking a talented, reliable, deadline-driven Communications Strategist to join our team supporting NASA’s Mission Support Directorate at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will work for the NASA Communication Services (NCS) Contract and will have a proven track record of planning and executing communications campaigns, developing social media strategies, operating in a matrixed organization with various stakeholders and approval processes, leading internal and external communications efforts, and collaborating with multiple groups.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary focal point for leading, planning and coordinating events of the NASA Mobile Traveling Exhibit across the country
- Provides project management support including schedule creation, developing, and analyzing budgets and scope of work, procurement, shipping, receiving, property management and safety. Manages comprehensive budgeting for major projects, collaborating with stakeholders to estimate costs for exhibit upgrades, repairs, travel expenses, and event expenditures
- Collaborates with coordinating logistics with exhibits staff, venue staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless event execution
- Organizes high-profile events, collaborating with NASA, other Government Agencies and Contractors and Industry Partners. Manages large-scale events with 1,200+ attendees, performing venue selection, hotel bookings, speaker prep, staffing, team coordination, attendance tracking, briefings, and interactions with venues
- Serves as liaison with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver exceptional service. Conducts client meetings, managing expectations, and providing regular updates throughout project lifecycles
- Delivers educational presentations on NASA missions and Highschool Aerospace Scholars, which requires presenting to diverse audiences of all ages – often children, teens, and / or young adults. Engages with the public to promote understanding and interest in the NASA OSTEM Highschool Aerospace Scholars program and the overall NASA agency
- Crafts articles, conducts interviews, and creates educational content for various publications and event-specific science activities. Develops content and coordinates public speaking engagements
Qualifications
BA / BS Journalism, Multimedia, Communications, or related fieldAt least 5-10 years of experience in strategic communications (including event coordination)Must be able to speak, lead activities, and write to a range of audiences and creatively explain complex technical ideas in an approachable, compelling wayMust be able to work with younger demographics, including children, teens, and young adults, as well as educators, and officialsMust be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a dynamic environmentExperience with editing and familiarity with AP style are desiredFlexibility to travel depending on mission and client requirements. This position requires frequent travel. Additionally, this position requires occasional weekend and off-hours work.
Due to involvement with US Government information, US citizenship is required.
Salary Range : $72K to $84K, Based on experience and assessment of capabilities.
This is a hybrid position so must be able to commute to the Johnson Space Center. Regularly.
