Senior Principal Safety Engineer

Overview Saalex is seeking a Senior Principal Safety Engineer in Bethesda, MD to support NSWC Carderock's requirements for engineering, IT, and technical support for data analysis, software development and modifications, control system development, IT and Information assurance (IA). The work will support various projects related to surface ships, submarines, boats and combatant craft, air vehicles, trainers and simulators, and IT infrastructure. Responsibilities Provide software and system safety analysis, risk assessment, and safety verification in accordance with DoD policies and procedures. Prepare system / software safety requirements and verification requirements, execute system / software safety analyses, safety analysis reports, and data packages for safety review panels (e.g., WSERBs, TRP). Develop Safety Program Plans (SSPPs) and System Safety Management Plans (SSMPs); conduct Fly-By-Wire (FBW) audits and prepare Safety Assessment Reports (SAR). Analyze and assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Software Trouble Reports (STRs), and Software Change Notices (SCNs); develop safety test plans and review safety test documentation. Develop software documentation including Software Development Plans (SDPs), Software Requirement Specifications (SRSs), Software Configuration Management Plans (SCMPs), Software Detailed Design Documents (SDDDs), and Interface Design Documents (IDDs); perform software quality evaluation throughout the software development cycle. Provide safety reviews of development and design documentation and hazard analyses for Lithium-Ion battery systems, including the Critical Battery Management System (CBMS). Requirements Required : Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Software or IT discipline, Engineering, or Mathematics. Security Clearance : Active Secret clearance required. U.S. citizenship and security investigation requirements apply. Desired Fifteen (15) years of experience with software and system safety analysis, risk assessment, and safety verification per MIL-STD-882E and the DoD Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH), on a variety of systems, with documentation of analysis results. The 15 years should include experience in : Preparation of safety requirements and verification requirements, execution of safety analyses, safety analysis reports, data packages for safety review panels, and preparation of SSPPs / SSMPs; safety-related audits and reviews. Development of software documentation including Software Development Plans (SDPs) and Software Requirement Specifications (SRSs); Software Configuration Management and Software Quality evaluation. Providing safety reviews of development and design documentation and hazard analyses for Lithium-Ion battery systems. Location, Type, and Compensation Work Location : Onsite in Bethesda, MD (full-time). Position Type : Full-Time Salary : $140,480.00 / yr - $206,980.00 / yr (base pay range; actual pay based on skills and experience).
