WSDOT is currently seeking to fill two non-permanent Highway Maintenance Worker 2 positions in Morton, WA. The selected candidates will assist with the area's maintenance and repair of the state highways and highway structures to ensure the traveling public's safety. Under the direction of a Highway Maintenance Supervisor and Highway Maintenance Worker 3, these journey level positions will serve as members of the regional maintenance organization and will perform asphalt and concrete maintenance, traffic control, repair and installation of guardrail and signs, and culvert and drainage maintenance. Working in the maintenance area requires responsible, safety-minded individuals to perform a variety of skilled labor tasks and operate highway equipment and tools. These opportunities are perfect for someone who enjoys working with their hands, knowing their work is done on roadways and in a variety of weather conditions.
These positions perform work that is often physical in nature and performed primarily outdoors and often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic; HMW2 may work at elevated heights above 25 feet over land or water. Work may also include traversing in rough, steep, and uneven terrain. Typical schedules are day or night shift, Sunday through Wednesday or Wednesday through Saturday, for 4, 10-hour days. Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled or call-out emergencies.

To be considered for these opportunities, the following are required :
Practical knowledge of highway maintenance practices including pavement repair, drainage systems, erosion control, vegetation management, sign and guardrail installation, and debris removal.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of Class A, B, and C highway maintenance equipment, tools, and vehicles in accordance with WSDOT standards.
Knowledge of traffic control practices following the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Strong understanding of workplace safety procedures and commitment to following safety policies, including confined space entry, fall protection, and hazardous material handling.
Skilled in the use of electronic systems for timekeeping, maintenance tracking, inventory management, and cost estimating (e.g., HATS, WZDB, TSMS).
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently in the field.
Demonstrated commitment to learning and growth. The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.

Demonstrated ability to perform snow removal and anti-icing operations. Skilled in safely and efficiently operating plow trucks and the application of de-icing materials to maintain roadway safety during winter weather events.
Familiarity with regional geography, road networks, and environmental conditions to support effective maintenance and response activities.
Comprehensive experience across multiple maintenance disciplines demonstrating versatility. Ability to perform a broad range of roadway, facility, and equipment maintenance tasks.
This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) non-permanent vacancies and may also be used to fill additional positions per business needs. These are non-permanent opportunities, expected to last up to six (6) months. These positions are not eligible for remote work.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
