Key Responsibilities and Related Competencies

• Receive and broadcast calls on multiple radio frequencies.
• Answer all phone lines within three rings.
• Speak in a normal tone during transmission and ensure communications are courteous and professional.
• Assist in providing calm and efficient service to agencies and respond to in-progress calls with clear direction and pertinent information.
• Accept responsibility for mistakes and correct problems while maintaining courteous and responsive service.
• Dispatch and direct units within the jurisdiction, maintaining knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum Education / Experience

High school diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information Computer Operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. Some positions may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Required Certifications

All certifications can be obtained on the job and should be completed within the first 12 months of hire if not already completed.

Work Hours

Rotating 12-hour shifts. Position required to work during periods of adverse weather or other emergencies. Campus Security Authority designated position.
