The Senior Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance of Purdue Federal Credit Union's financial operations. This position is responsible for advanced accounting activities, preparation of financial and regulatory reports, and coordination of audits. The Senior Accountant collaborates with internal teams and external partners, contributes to process improvements, and provides guidance to junior accounting staff to support efficient and reliable financial performance.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Reporting & Reconciliation

o Prepare, review, and analyze journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

o Develop and deliver financial statements, regulatory reports, and management reports for senior leadership, auditors, and the Board of Directors.

o Perform and review detailed account reconciliations and variance analyses; identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Audit Support
  • o Support regulatory reporting compliance by preparing mandatory filings and documentation in accordance with GAAP, NCUA, and other reporting standards.

    o Coordinate with external and internal auditors, providing requested documentation and addressing inquiries to ensure successful audit outcomes.

  • Process Improvement & Controls
  • o Recommend and implement process and control enhancements to improve accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

    o Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures to ensure standardization and compliance.

  • Budget planning and Financial Forecasting
  • o Assist in budget preparation and collaborate with the Finance team to consolidate inputs.

    o Work closely with Finance and Operations teams to strengthen the organization's financial planning process, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and strategic alignment

  • Technical Guidance & Support
  • Collaborate across departments to provide financial insights, analysis, and recommendations that inform strategic decision-making.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to junior accounting staff, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
  • Required Skills

    Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
  • 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in financial services, banking, or credit unions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP / accounting systems (experience with DNA or other credit union core systems preferred).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex financial data clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while building strong relationships and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • High ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality.
