POSITION SUMMARY :
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Part-Time Aquatic Specialist to the team! This position will be located at Marion Diehl Recreation Center and will be responsible for developing and facilitating recreation programs such as water aerobics, swim lessons, and other aquatic programs. The incumbent may also participate in providing in-service training to Lifeguard staff and providing additional support on the pool deck. In addition, the selected candidate will be crucial in developing strong partnerships with our community. This position will work about 29 hours per week, which will primarily consist of evenings and weekends. Additionally, a minimum of 10 hours of hands-on aquatic programming will be required of the selected candidate each week.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
- StarGuard / Starfish Instructor Certification and / or Water Safety Instructor
- Experience delivering water aerobics and / or swim lesson programs
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Develop, lead, and evaluate programs and activities in an aquatic environment and recreation center or park facilityProvide weekly in-service training to LifeguardsProvide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, website, social media, and walk-in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentalsEnsure the safety of participants / spectators and administer first aid when necessaryEnforce rules and regulationsCollect fees and take registrations for recreational programs and facility rentalsAssist in the light maintenance of facilities and recreational areasSupervise children involved in after-school, summer, or other recreational programsHandle inquiries and complaints from the publicSome programs may require driving a county vehicle to transport participants or commute to a different locationAssist with department events and field tripsServe as the manager on duty on a regular rotationMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
