• Expected pay for this position is $34.00-$54.40. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills and internal equity.

Job Summary

The Hospice RN is a core team member of the hospice interdisciplinary team and must be able to provide, teach, and supervise care in the home, hospital, and nursing home setting. Assesses individual and family needs and hazards, existing or potential. Carries out treatment, diagnostic and / or preventative procedures as ordered by the patient's physician. Must demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of ages and to function as a team member in providing for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of hospice patients and their families.

Job Specifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Currently licensed RN in the state of Illinois (or eligible). Minimum of one year of experience in the acute care setting. Professional and emotional maturity to function as a hospice team member. Must have a valid driver's license if applicable.

JOB KNOWLEDGE :

Comprehensive knowledge and skill in current nursing practice.

General knowledge of current community health principles.

Knowledge of the role of the professional nurse as a team leader and contributing constructive leadership.

The patient populations must be considered when assessing job knowledge required from the employee.

Knowledge of current Hospice principles and practices.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations and TJC standards.

Ability to organize, manage, and provide skilled nursing care based on scientific principles, basic behavioral concepts, and identified needs patients.

Ability to recognize the need for adjustment and flexibility in nursing care functions so as to maintain quality nursing care in all types of environments.

Ability to exercise leadership coupled with tolerance and understanding as well as with appreciation and respect for the special abilities of others.

Ability to accept and constructively utilize supervision.

Successfully completes hospice orientation, annual competencies and ongoing hospital wide CBLs (computerized-based learning).

Demonstrates assessment / reassessment and knowledge skills for pain and symptom management.

Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).

The RN will successfully complete orientation and hospital-wide and department-specific CBL's (computerized based learning). The RN will participate in departmental inservices and will demonstrate competency by completing the service specific competency testing / evaluation process, as appropriate to the RN role. Continuing education programs will be offered to augment the RN's knowledge of pertinent developments in patient care and to foster a performance improvement environment.
