Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring pediatric recovery skills and a compact or ND nursing license.
Responsibilities
Position is in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) of an acute hospital setting15-bed unit covering both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recoveryHandles a mixed patient population, including daily pediatric cases and patients with disabilities; all OR cases except transplantsNurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2, and 1 : 1 for pediatric or higher acuity patientsUnit uses EPIC for chartingMixed shifts with primary day hours plus call, including some 8 and 12 hour shiftsOn-call required : maximum 1-2 nights per 6 weeks; up to 24 hours of weekend call per 6 weeks; 30-minute response timeMay float to inpatient units as helping hands or for Phase 2 recovery and sitter dutiesTravelers do not take charge nurse roles and may occasionally work with a nurse aidScrubs are providedDuties include recovery of post-op surgical patients of all ages, including vented and high-acuity patientsMust be sensitive and attentive to the care of patients with disabilitiesCharge nurse is available for support and break relief, but travelers do not serve in charge roles2 days of unit-specific orientation provided, with additional buddy call during the first weekendOn-call holiday and weekend coverage required as needed during the contractRTO must be submitted up front, with a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract; additional requests are not approvedScrub attire is provided by the facilityTeamwork, kindness, efficiency, and willingness to help others are valued in this unitRequirements
Active ND or compact RN license required at the time of considerationMinimum of 3 years of RN experience requiredCurrent certifications : BLS, ACLS, and PALS must be in handMust have experience recovering pediatric patients and be willing to recover second phase patients from ORAbility to care for patients needing ventilation support or on pressors as applicable in PACUExperience reading telemetry strips is requiredCandidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facilityCandidates may not have been employed in any capacity by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past yearBenefits
