The Opportunity
We are seeking an Inspector for our Transportation-Construction Management Practice in Western North Carolina. As an Inspector you will observe the contractors work to determine the progress and quality of work on construction projects.
Essential Functions :
- Identify discrepancies, report significant discrepancies to supervisor, and direct the Contractor to correct such observed discrepancies
- Work independently, under general supervision, exercising advanced judgment in the application of standard methodologies and procedures for complex projects
- Perform highly complex technical assignments in field surveying and construction layout, making, and checking engineering computations
- Inspecting construction work and conducting field tests and is responsible for coordinating and managing lower level inspectors
- Reads and interprets contract documents (plans and specifications) to determine if the contractor's work is in substantial compliance with the contract documents. May make and / or check engineering computations
- Maintains detailed accurate records of the Contractor's daily operations and of significant events that affect work
- Inspect construction work
- Perform sampling and field testing of component materials and completed work in accordance with the Construction Contract documents
- Guide junior inspectors, as needed or directed
- Some travel may be required
Minimum Qualifications :
High School diploma or equivalentMinimum of 7 years relevant experiencePrior experience in construction inspection, including exposure to bridge and / or roadway construction inspection, or a Civil Engineering degree with the ability to earn additional required qualifications within one yearMust have materials sampling and testing certifications as required by the scope of work of the projectAbility to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods, under various outside conditionsAbility to reach horizontally as well as vertically for required tasksAbility to use construction or inspection safety equipment including fall protectionAbility to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 poundsBenefits :
