Job Description – Assistant Engineering Manager

Support the Engineering Manager in leading and coordinating engineering activities, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. Assist with project planning and execution, communication (internal and external), team leadership and training and staff development, while also contributing to process improvement and problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Project Support :

Assisting in the planning, execution, and monitoring of engineering projects, ensuring they align with objectives and timelines. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders on key milestones and actions.

  • Team Leadership :

    • Supporting the Engineering Manager in leading and mentoring a team of engineers, fostering collaboration and individual development.

  • Technical Expertise :

    • Providing technical guidance and support to the team, contributing to problem-solving and design decisions.

  • Process Improvement :

    • Identifying and implementing opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the engineering department. Utilize existing platforms and software to reduce labor input and expedite communications and data exchange.

  • Communication and Collaboration :

    • Maintaining clear communication with team members, stakeholders, and other departments to ensure project alignment and smooth operations.

  • Quality Assurance :

    • Ensuring that engineering work meets quality standards and complies with relevant regulations and safety requirements.

  • Resource Management :

    • Assisting in the allocation and management of resources, including personnel, budget, and materials.

  • Deputizing for Manager :

    • Assuming the responsibilities of the Engineering Manager in their absence, ensuring continuity of operations.

  • Specific industry or company requirements :

    • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office portfolio of software, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks is essential. Experience with CRM platforms is helpful.

    Verbal and written communication mastery with all levels of a manufacturing operation is essential to this position.

    Project management skills are essential.

    Time management skills are essential.

    Experience working across and leading multi-departmental teams is beneficial, and will be a vital part of this position.

    Evaluating existing processes and suggesting methods of improvement are encouraged.

    Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (or related field).
  • Relevant experience in engineering within the injection- or structural foam-molding plastics industry. Knowledge of the injection molding process and tooling are essential.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, especially as a leader.
