Must-Have : Candidates must have experience in postpartum and labor & delivery.

Description :

Unit combined with Labor & Delivery, Well-Baby Nursery, and Postpartum.

Total number of beds is 10.

Nurse-patient ratios for Labor & Delivery is usually 1 to 1-2, following appropriate guidelines.

Postpartum nurse-patient ratio is 1 to 4 for couplet care.

Electronic medical records are managed through Cerner.

Fetal heart monitoring is done using designated equipment.

Charge nurses will take patient assignments.

No nurse aides are present on the unit.

Weekend work is required every other week.

Holidays will be integrated into the permanent staff rotation.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Telemetry is managed using specific equipment.

There are no neonatal specialists on-site.

A hospitalist is available 24 / 7.

On staff are multiple OB / GYNs and midwives.

There is no IV team available.

Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7.

Pharmacy services are only available 10 hours a day.

Shifts are 12 hours, running from 7 AM to 7 PM, with some self-scheduling flexibility.

Manager is responsible for balancing staffing needs and ensuring coverage.

Schedules are created 30-45 days in advance.

Float staff may assist in medical surgical or critical care units, but this is rare and only if desired.

Orientation in the unit typically lasts 2-3 days.

Common diagnoses in postpartum may include post-operative gynecological surgeries, high-risk deliveries, and newborns undergoing withdrawal protocols.

Candidates must be comfortable managing deliveries independently.

Teamwork is essential for this position.

Candidates will not need to scrub in for cesarean sections, as this will be managed by another team.

The unit handles approximately 30-40 deliveries each month.

The hospital can cancel shifts as per established policies.

Charting is done using Cerner.
