Job Summary
Performs evaluation, stabilization and critical care management of patients being transported from outlying hospitals under protocol and / or SC EMS laws. Provides operational support to ensure transport services meeting all personnel, equipment and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

- Performs detailed physical assessment, establishes a plan of care and performs advanced critical care stabilization for patients being transported following designated protocols and procedures as approved by the Program's Medical Control Physician and SC DHEC Division of EMS.
- Communicates with parents, family members, referring physician and outlying hospital personnel as well as with EMS support personnel.
- Provides maintenance and follow-up for equipment / supply needs to insure system readiness.
- Provides written transport follow-up to each referring physician / hospital; collects data to assist in regulatory compliance; quality improvement and patient satisfaction issues
- Analyzes and reports results of blood gas accurately. Performs blood gas analyzer quality control and maintenance as needed. Initiates umbilical venous catheter insertion.
- Perform duties on helicopter or ambulance.
- Provides a complete and accurate report to Medical Control. Makes recommendations to medical directors during transports as appropriate.
- Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time / productivity, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education - Associate degree NursingExperience - Three (3) years of nursing experience. ICU or ER RN experience preferred.In Lieu Of
In lieu of three (3) years of nursing experience, may accept four (4) years of paramedic experience and one (1) year of ICU or ER RN experience.Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Licensed to practice as a RN in South Carolina requiredSpecial Purpose EMT (must be obtained after hire)ACLS, NRP, and PALS required within one year of hire date.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
