Embedded Controls Engineer

has an immediate opening for an Embedded Controls Engineer to join the technical staff of the CO2 Laser business unit located in Bloomfield, CT.

This individual will report directly to the Manager of Electronics & Software Engineering.

The successful candidate will support the design, development, and integration of real time embedded control hardware and software for a variety of laser systems and applications, and the design and development of diagnostics, controls, and other critical analog and digital functions embedded in a variety of pulsed and CW OEM laser systems.

On occasion this individual will also be required to support existing products by performing failure analysis, troubleshooting existing designs, evaluating design improvements, and providing production support. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Design and develop real time signal processing and data communications with a particular focus on hardware and firmware development for embedded systems and PC based GUI development for user interfacing.
• Design of analog and digital circuitry for embedded systems including schematic capture and printed circuit design.
• Provide sustaining engineering for existing and legacy products. Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science or related fields and significant laboratory experience
• While professional experience would be preferred, Coherent will consider candidates with recent degrees.

Since the successful candidate will be required to operate in a cross-functional team environment, communication and interpersonal skills are critical elements for success in this position.

Occasional lifting of lab equipment (lasers, oscilloscopes, etc.), and working with high power lasers. Safety Requirements All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp.
