This is a remote role, but eligible candidates must reside in one of the following states : IN, MI, IL, OH, KY, TN, MN, MA, FL, GA, PA

Occasional travel is required once per year for our annual summit in Mishawaka, IN or to client engagements.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000, depending on experience and qualifications, while our internal pay band for this role extends up to $140,000.

Pathfinders, a full-service integrated marketing agency, is seeking an Associate Director of Web Strategy & Development to shape how we build and deliver digital experiences. In this role, youll oversee web development, integrations, and QA while setting a strategy that ensures our digital work is both technically sound and creatively impactful.

What you will do, in greater detail :

Establish technical direction and execution

  • Define and maintain technical standards, frameworks, and coding practices for the web development team.
  • Evaluate emerging tools, technologies, and workflows to improve performance, scalability, and quality.
  • Provide hands-on guidance during solution design, ensuring alignment with digital strategy and business needs.
  • Oversee software development and delivery

  • Lead the planning, estimation, and execution of development projects from concept through deployment.
  • Partner with project management to ensure work is properly scoped, resourced, and delivered on time.
  • Support the team in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and iterative improvement across all client projects.
  • Oversee API integration

  • Design and oversee the implementation of secure, efficient, and scalable API integrations between platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure integrations meet performance and compliance standards.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve data flow across systems.
  • Quality assurance

  • Establish and enforce QA processes, including automated and manual testing.
  • Ensure the accuracy, security, and accessibility of all digital deliverables.
  • Lead post-launch reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Own documentation and knowledge sharing

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and development standards.
  • Foster a culture of learning through code reviews, tech talks, and mentoring.
  • Ensure knowledge is shared across teams to minimize single-points-of-failure.
  • Vendor Management

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure alignment with agency standards and project outcomes.
  • Develop vendor input and performance assessments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Negotiate scopes of work, rates, and timelines as needed.
  • P&L Ownership

  • Partner with Digital and Operations leadership to forecast, track, and manage web-related budgets.
  • Balance resource allocation and outsourcing to optimize profitability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or client experience.
  • LMA (Leadership, Management, Accountability)

  • Lead a team of developers by setting clear expectations, providing coaching, and conducting regular check-ins.
  • Ensure team alignment with Pathfinders core values and the Digital departments vision.
  • Drive accountability for deadlines, deliverables, and individual growth goals.
  • Additional job functions

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports while fostering a high-performing team culture.
  • Attend all applicable required employee orientation, training, department quarterly meetings, and all-agency summits at PF headquarters. Overnight / weekend travel will be required for certain agency events, up to 15% travel can be expected.

  • What wed like to see in a strong candidate :

  • B.Sc. / B.A. required
  • 7+ years of related industry experience (creative agency, digital marketing or consulting)
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of WordPress (custom builds, plugins, themes) and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience with API integrations, cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure), and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated experience in vendor selection, negotiation, and management.
  • Experience contributing to department budgeting, resource allocation, or P&L management preferred.
  • Agency or client-facing experience strongly preferred.The Associate Director of Web Development provides hands-on technical leadership for the agencys web development team, establishing best-in-class coding standards, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring high-quality delivery of digital solutions. This role blends technical depth with team leadership, vendor oversight, and fiscal accountability, helping connect business goals to scalable, high-performing web experiences.Reporting to the Director of Digital, this leader partners cross-functionally with strategy, creative, and project management to translate vision into execution while mentoring developers and owning operational excellence within the web discipline.
