The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) seeks Technical Operations Supervisor I in the Sheridan or Gillette, Wyoming area. Under the supervision of the District Traffic Supervisor, provide expert-level maintenance and upgrades of traffic-related electrical devices throughout the district. Responsible for the lead operation, scheduling, maintenance, and upgrades of the electrical traffic control and lighting devices within the District Traffic Program to safely and efficiently regulate, warn, and inform the traveling public according to WYDOT, NEC, and MUTCD regulations. This position is responsible for hiring, performance appraisals, oversight, training, and development of the electrical crew.

Essential Functions : The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
Responsible for all aspects of electrical crew supervision.
As a working supervisor, lead and direct work for all electrical technicians. Gives expert advice and reviews work on a daily basis to ensure job quality and responsibilities are met.
Train electrical technicians in all aspects of work.
Develop and maintain an on-call rotation schedule.
Manage inventory and order materials and equipment as needed.
Complete all daily, weekly, and monthly work reports, including safety reports and inspections.
Conduct safety meetings and instruction.
Assist with annual budgeting.
Troubleshoot, maintains, repairs, and installs complex electrical and electronic devices to ensure the safety of the traveling public. These devices include but are not limited to, traffic signals, roadway lighting, flashing beacon warning systems, pedestrian crossing systems, and road closure gates.
Utilize special software, hardware, complex testing devices, and communication devices to operate and maintain the devices listed above.
Perform locates on all State of Wyoming underground utilities using specialized locator equipment, GPS, and mapping data. Provide assistance to all entities when there are any questions about services.
Perform inspections on all electrical devices installed on construction projects, using plans and drawings.
Attend training for various electrical equipment and technology.
Qualifications
Preferences / Agency Requirements :
Knowledge :
Knowledge of the NEC (National Electrical Code) handbook and MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices).
Knowledge of safely and properly working out of an aerial lift truck at heights of 40" feet.
Knowledge and ability to work on electrical systems ranging from low voltage DC (12 to 24 volts) and AC ranging from 120 to 480 volts.
Knowledge of time management and making quality decisions, as this position is in the field without on-site supervision.
Knowledge of Leadership skills related to the recruitment, retention, and development of crew members.

Bachelor's Degree
Experience :
0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Technical Operations Technician
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations :
Some agencies may require a Class A Commercial Driver's License

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Technical Operations Technician

Necessary Special Requirements :
Safely and confidently perform repairs of faulty electric or electronic equipment at levels up to 40' working height in a bucket truck.
May be required to conduct repairs 24 / 7 in all weather conditions and during high-traffic volume situations.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Occasional overnight travel is required.

Individuals must report to the department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving a call.
Qualifying eligibility and criteria for the hiring bonus
Temporary employees accepting a full-time permanent position.
Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public.
One year of service to WYDOT must be completed; failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive; funds will be recouped from final pay.
Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and / or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
