Day in the Life at STERIS – St. Louis Yard Operations

You arrive just before 5 : 00 a.m., gear up with PPE, and do a quick walkaround of your truck. Fluids topped off, tires checked, lights verified—you log everything per cGMP / ISO practices. By sunrise, you’re moving materials safely across the yard, positioning trailers, and—when needed—making a short shuttle to nearby STERIS locations less than 10 miles away without highway driving. Throughout the morning, you load and unload, keep your workspace spotless, and remain vigilant about safety, especially when directed to move or load hazardous waste. Before your shift wraps, you update records, inspect equipment again, and leave the yard ready for the next move.

Role Details

  • Shift : 1st Shift (5 : 00 a.m. – 1 : 30 p.m.) with overtime as needed (shift subject to change with Union bid system)
  • Pay : $26.64 per hour
  • Location : 7501 Page Ave, St. Louis, MO
  • Hire Type : Direct Full-Time Hire
  • Primary Area : Majority of work on STERIS property with occasional local hauls to other STERIS sites (

What You’ll Handle

  • Operate company trucks and yard equipment on-site and on public streets as needed.
  • Load and unload materials safely on company-operated vehicles at company, supplier, or customer locations.
  • Perform daily care for assigned equipment : cleaning, checking oil, water, and batteries; document and replenish as necessary.
  • Work with constant attention to safety—protecting people, materials, and property at all times.
  • Maintain written / electronic records in line with cGMP and ISO procedures.
  • Keep equipment and surrounding areas clean and organized.
  • Move and load hazardous waste when directed by the supervisor.

    • Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current and valid Missouri CDL.
  • Ability to read and interpret scales.
  • Manual dexterity with strong peripheral vision.
  • Ability to wear and use PPE as required.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Class A CDL.
  • Hazmat endorsement / certification.
  • Experience positioning and moving trucks in tight or restricted spaces.
  • 3+ years of truck driving experience.
  • 1+ years of forklift experience (stand-up, sit-down, electric, propane).
  • Basic truck maintenance experience.

    • Physical & Skill Competencies

  • Lift, carry, and move up to approximately 60 lbs.
  • Comfortable with heights up to ~10 feet and prolonged sitting.
  • Read and follow written instructions, safety labels, and equipment manuals.
  • Basic math, writing, and data entry; good hand-eye coordination.
  • Collect and enter quality and inventory control data (paper or electronic).
  • Work effectively with minimal supervision.
