Technical Architect Team Lead

The Architecture Technical Lead (ATL) is responsible for quality review and quality management, developing and maintaining firm wide building technology standards, providing leadership and mentorship to staff and contributing to firm operations as an advisor on design, architectural technology as well as, talent development and process improvement. The ATL will report directly to the Principals. S / he will be a member of the management team. It is anticipated the ATL will work on assigned projects about 25% of the time, and the rest of the time shall consult on other projects, provide mentorship and guidance to the Architecture and Interior teams across the firm.

Typical Duties including but not limited to :

Technical Leadership, Quality Review and Quality Management

• Serve as technical point and lead projects exhibiting expert knowledge of relevant. Appropriate and applicable aspects of commercial planning and design.
• Direct and coordinate a team in preparing construction documentation, detailing and coordinating trades.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of relevant and applicable codes including IBC, CBC, ADA, Title 24 and of relevant building department jurisdictions and practices. Knowledge of relevant AIA documents.
• Work in partnership with the PM to control cost and manage client deliverable expectations and to direct the internal and external team.
• Responsible for QA / QC of all construction / contract documents, drawings and specifications. Responsible for detailed final review and approval of all plan check, bid and IFC documentation prior to stamping and signature.
• Assists project teams with the creation of complex or newly defined details, to improve the clarity and specificity of project drawings. Assures these new details become part of the company standards library. Verifies integrity of design and constructability for construction drawings and details.
• Monitor, develop and improve firm-wide QA process that will enable the office to produce high quality drawings and specifications.
• Monitor construction / contract Administration processes and procedures to insure accuracy prior to approval.
• Gain familiarity with the firm’s standards and advise teams and senior leadership on needed improvements and / or efficiencies in the tools.
• Participate in BD activities including project walks, pitches and proposals in order to win work.
• Review progress sets in conjunction with the PMs to provide feedback and mentoring to staff
• Participate in client meetings as the technical expert and to help steer the project
• Participate in QA process
• Consult on detailing, hand sketch, space plan or assist in driving design from concept through DD.

Leadership and Mentorship

Requirements

Experience Required : A minimum of 15 years previous experience in the architectural / interiors field, with a 5-year professional degree from an accredited university. Advanced degree desired but not required. A strong background in Technical Architecture with overlap into Interiors is desirable. Licensed Architect desired but not required.
