Position Summary / Objective :

KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team of engineers and technicians providing engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems, including unmanned and autonomous systems. Candidates with education and experience in computer engineering / science and software development fields are highly desired.

Essential functions :

• Design, develop, test, and maintain software tools and applications to support the marine species modeling team (MSMT) research, data processing, and acoustic modeling.
• Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, set up SQL Server instances, configure database settings, and manage server parameters to support large-scale environmental and biological acoustic datasets.
• Develop and optimize stored procedures, views, and functions for querying and transforming oceanographic and species observation data. Monitor query performance, tuning slow queries, managing indexes, and optimizing database resources.
• Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions to ensure secure access to data and applications adhering to organizational data management policies.
• Perform routine database maintenance, capacity planning, and resolve database issues and incidents.
• Implement backup strategies, schedule automated backups, and manage disaster recovery procedures.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work :

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. Attendance at prescheduled mandatory meetings is required. Must be available during the core work hours as determined by your contract / location and must account for the required number of hours in a pay period to maintain Full-time status.
