Base pay range

$25.28 / hr - $25.28 / hr

Responsibilities

• Identify unlicensed business activities using computerized databases, published business lists, field surveys, and other resources to ensure compliance with business tax requirements.
• Conduct field inspections for non-compliant businesses operating without a valid business license.
• Issue notices of violation and answer questions relating to business taxes.
• Investigate complaints and recommend appropriate action.
• Visit businesses to verify valid or invalid Business Licenses.
• Check delinquent accounts and pursue settlements through personal visits, phone calls, and letters.
• Initiate collection of past due Business Occupation Taxes and review financial records to determine tax adequacy.
• Collect taxes and penalties due and assist customers with applying for Business Occupational Certificates.
• Serve walk-in customers, maintain records, and prepare reports on businesses within the City.
• Make appointments for customers missing required documents and update business tax records.
• Inspect vending machines for compliance and conduct customer service via in person, phone, and mail.
• Provide information on department services, procedures, fees, and resolve routine questions or complaints.
• Research problems / complaints and initiate problem resolution; receive and record payments and balance cash drawers.
• Prepare revenues for deposit and forward as appropriate; process and calculate business license applications and renewals.
• Attend Court hearings for non-compliant businesses.

Physical requirements and qualifications

This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as moderate physical effort in light work, involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, with potential lifting of moderate weight. Some tasks require color and visual discrimination, hearing and speaking ability, and exposure to various environmental conditions.
