Associate Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering
WSP USA is seeking multiple Associate Consultants, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group . This position can be based out of Irvine + San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; and Raleigh, NC.
Job Description
This opportunity provides engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and / or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector. Facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore / offshore facilities. The work product should meet or exceed acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Your Impact
- Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Apply higher-order engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Identify project site, design and construction related risks and provide mitigation solutions.
- Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Prepare and implement site safety activity plans and coordinate field work activities.
- Oversee cross-functional teams to execute project work on mid-level projects and / or multiple smaller projects. Collaborate with other engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects. Track budgets and milestone progress; support completion of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
- Write technical reports and document findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, technical drawings, and engineering software (including SAP200 and similar FEM tools).
- Prepare and present findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
- Complete all assigned trainings and perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program;1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering with demonstrated marine and coastal design experience (rehabilitation and / or new design).Ability to perform technical computations / calculations applying engineering principles to ports and marine structures; strong technical writing, engineering software skills, and fundamentals including statics and problem-solving.Proficiency with AutoCAD and SAP2000 or similar tools.Experience with design / build processes; familiarity with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.Ability to plan, conduct and lead site inspections / investigations per applicable regulations and policies.Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, prioritization, and ability to work independently with minimal oversight; capable of guiding junior team members and adhering to QA / QC procedures.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences.Commitment to workplace safety and to abiding by WSP's safety policies.Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek and occasional travel as required.Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.EIT or Professional Engineer license.3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in marine and coastal design.Experience with REVIT and other BIM tools; experience with LSDYNA or similar engineering software.Active participation in local professional organizations; experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws and compliance.About WSP

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations) : $70,000 – $90,000. WSP USA reserves the right to modify the posted range based on education, experience, and location.
