Job Description

The Idaho Transportation Department is hiring an Engineer Manager I for our District 4 Operations / Engineering, located in District 4 - Shoshone, Idaho. This position will plan, organize, and review staff, projects, and engineering work; perform professional engineering and related administrative work involving the maintenance, construction and operation of highways, and related activities.

This position may involve some travel with overnight stays. This position may be rotated with the Design Construction Engineer or Materials Manager positions.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee contractor operations, ensuring compliance with contracts, laws, and CFRs for federal participation
  • Interview and hire staff, assign work, and evaluate performance
  • Conduct professional engineering work involving conventional practices but may also involve a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult project coordination requirements
  • Collaborate with Bridge, Environmental, Materials, and Right of Way teams to resolve complex maintenance issues
  • Build strong internal relationships and lead discussions to ensure successful project delivery across ITD sections
  • Review Permits for compliance
  • Review and design of traffic control plans and work zones

Requirements

  • Licensed in Idaho as a Professional Engineer (PE); or be eligible for comity licensure by the Idaho Board of Professional Engineers
  • Valid driver's license
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Good knowledge of state and local government operations pertaining to a specific engineering discipline
  • Management practice experience
  • Experience supervising staff
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws pertaining to a specific engineering discipline
  • Experience evaluating engineering projects and making decisions relative to their merit
  • Experience writing engineering reports and correspondence
  • Experience reviewing and critiquing engineering analyses
  • Experience making oral presentations to groups relative to the merits of engineering applications
  • Experience leading and managing teams
