Job Description

The Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Special Agent in Charge. This position is a POST Certified Peace Officer in Colorado and exists to provide coordination, review, and daily supervision of the operational activities conducted by Special Agents I-IV, some current Special Agent V's, Analysts, and other professional staff associated with the investigation of complex criminal violations.

The successful candidate will have ten years of professional investigative crimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency, one of which must have been at the level of a work leader, staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent. Current Colorado POST certification in good standing is also required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervises multiple units consisting of uniform and civilian staff members within CBI Investigations.
  • Oversees and acts as a second-level supervisor between unit-specific supervision / work leader and the Assistant Director.
  • Reports and updates investigative case progression and any personnel matters to the Assistant Director.
  • Ensures criminal investigations are conducted properly and efficiently and provides local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies with investigative documents and reports to obtain successful criminal prosecutions and resolutions.

Requirements

  • Ten years of professional investigative crimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency, one of which must have been at the level of a work leader, staff authority, unit supervisor, or equivalent.
  • Current Colorado POST certification in good standing.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in any field of study and six years of professional investigative crimes against persons experience with a law enforcement agency, one of which must have been at the level of a work leader, unit supervisor, or equivalent.
