Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) - Construction
We are seeking a SSHO that will facilitate compliance with OSHA guidelines, provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations and be on a constant lookout for safety violations.
The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who understands and follows OSHA regulations, be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies. The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to legal standards and foster a culture of attention to health and safety.
A minimum of five (5) years in Dredging or Marine Construction Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) Experience and a minimum of Three (3) years of continuous construction as a SSHO on USACE Marine Construction Projects.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of Occupational Health & Safety policies and programs
- Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
- Conduct risk assessment and enforce preventative measures
- Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
- Initiate and organize OHSA training of employees and executives
- Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g. not using protective equipment)
- Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
- Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy
- Record and investigate incidents to determine causes and handle worker's compensation claims
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
- Ensure company policies and procedures are always followed.
- Responsible for project performance, production, and efficiently utilizing site, department and staff resources.
- Hold daily start of shift meetings to cover safety topics and any near misses
Qualifications
A minimum of five (5) years in Dredging or Marine Construction Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) ExperienceA minimum of Three (3) years of continuous construction as a SSHO on USACE Marine Construction Projects.Health Officer (SSHO) experience is required.In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA / EPA / EM 385-1-1) and proceduresDevelop AHA documents on site with Project TeamKnowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practicesExperience in writing reports and policies for health and safetyFamiliarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statisticsProficient in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a plusOutstanding organizational skillsDiligent with great attention to detailExcellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topicsBS / BA in safety management, engineering or relevant fieldInstructor-signed OSHA 30- hour training CARDOSHA 30, EM 385-1-1 certifiedFirst Aid, BBP and CPR certified and up to datePhysical Demands / Work Environment
