Role Overview :
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Designer with a specialization in headwear (hats, caps, visors, etc.). You will be responsible for taking headwear designs from concept through manufacturing, ensuring technical integrity, fit, materials, cost feasibility, and alignment with brand design intent.
This is a mid-level role : you should bring prior experience in technical design and headwear construction, while still growing your leadership and category expertise.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop and maintain complete tech packs (construction, specs, materials, trims) for headwear and select apparel items
- Lead fittings, evaluate samples, provide fit / construction feedback, and drive iterations
- Collaborate closely with design, sourcing, production, and quality teams to troubleshoot and maintain design integrity
- Research trends, materials, trimming innovations, structural techniques, new fabrics, and headwear component technologies
- Manage trim and component sourcing for headwear (e.g. buckram, interlinings, stiffeners, closures)
- Support project timelines, monitor cost constraints, and ensure timely delivery
- Document and archive spec changes, style revisions, and tech feedback
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelors degree in Fashion Design, Textile Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)Proven experience (3-5 years) in headwear design / technical development or accessoriesStrong understanding of headwear construction, materials, stiffeners, closures, fit geometry, and trimsProficiency in Adobe IllustratorExcellent communication skills and comfort working cross-functionallyStrong problem-solving and iterative thinking able to foresee manufacturing or fit issuesDetail-oriented, organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlinesExperience working with overseas factories, understanding of quality tolerances, and factory process awarenessPreferred / Plus :
Experience with structured hat forms, soft caps, performance / technical headwearKnowledge of sustainability, ecomaterials, or innovative fabricsExperience with 3D prototyping or digital headwear modelingPrior experience with apparel to support crossover projects
